Teaching

A certified Danza Duende© instructor, Mónica has led dances classes, workshops and retreats in several countries of Europe since 2003, having developed a long-term collaboration with Mudriam Asbl (Brussels), Mettiss'Art Danza e Bennessere (Milan) and La Flecha (Barcelona), within the context of the Danza Duende International School. After the necessary pause during the pandemic, where she taught solely online, she is now focused on developing an approach which can source from the Danza Duende methodology and other practices, combined with her own individuated path.

What to expect

We often associate technique, rigour or structure with something that is too serious, tense or exhausting. Perhaps, at some point, we have come to believe that, when engaging with the study of traditional or classic body languages, there is no room for a breather, for letting go, or for the sheer joy of immediate pleasure.

However, it is possible to find meaning in apparent opposites, and even to enjoy and celebrate the apparent contradiction. We can find constancy in movement, as water does; flexibility in matter, as the earth does; strength in subtlety, as the wind does; gentleness in fire, like that which warms the heart; and elegance in the invisible, as space does so well.

We talk about freedom, yes.

Freedom as allowing ourselves to play with the rules, to use language in a straight line or with detours, in parallel or in circles, by the letter or by the sound. It is up to us to decide.

We are talking about pleasure, as well.

Pleasure understood as a feeling resulting from exploring, discovering and expanding the heart and the mind. We give space to experience, we find new paths, simple as they may be. We explore - individually or in community - the rhythm, the sound, the gesture, the props, the words, the languages, with one another. We enjoy the pleasure that we can indeed find in what each of us can contribute to create living language, as opposed to something that may appear fixed or crystallized.

Finally, we talk about joy and what it truly means.
