I believe that art is a privileged vehicle for self-knowledge and liberation. I have explored this vision for almost twenty years within the context of my studies with the Danza Duende© International School, founded by Yumma Mudra. This living, timeless laboratory offered concrete tools for transforming emotions and exploring mental patterns, with a view to living our lives from a place of truth. Through dance, calligraphy, theatre, meditation and other ancient techniques and practices, this experience has been of immense importance to my development as an artist, teacher and human being.

My formal dance studies began with Flamenco and Spanish ballet in 1991 and later continued with contemporary dance, yoga and raqs sharki, whilst also exploring martial arts, music and percussion.

 

However, it was to the study of Romani dances and Flamenco that I have devoted the greater part of my career. Deeply rooted in displacement, migrations, often marginalisation and the movement of peoples, these language forms strongly reveal how art has always been key for survival. The Romani people, like many other marginalized groups—including all those who contributed to the origins of flamenco, which draws on Spanish, Muslim, Jewish, South American, and African cultural traditions—have always excelled at using this tool to face and transcend life's hardest trials, and they have an important message to share with us. 

Ultimately, my investigation is focused on that primordial motivation inherent to all beings which precedes every gesture, every word and every breath. I long to catch a glimpse of that elusive  flame which ignites our souls, and to celebrate that pure joy and truth that lies hidden beneath our infinite layers.
