 TESTIMONIALS

Real moments, shared experencies

Vera Baptista

The teacher was very committed to the pedagogical relationship with her students, being attentive, identifying their individual needs and ensuring they found their own brilliance in dance, in addition to the technique she transmits to us. Just watching her dance is a learning experience and an inspiration!

 Karine Butchart  (Ireland)

Whilst learning gypsy dance techniques from Russia, Hungary and Romania, the main focus of the weekend was really on the spirit of the gypsy style or the duende of dance.  Monica, was knowledgeable, skilful and playful as she inspired the group with her energy and enthusiasm.  The room became a swirl of colour and joy as we swished our huge skirts and shawls feeling exhilarated by the music and energy of the dance. The whole weekend was well paced with good warm up and stretching.

Sónia Brito

Mónica has a unique energy and vitality, and is trained in various areas of dance, which enriches each class. The learning process is individualised and also includes group dynamics. The peace she transmits helps us improve in each class without tension.

Rita Fontes

Having immersed into different dance styles, she has deepened her technique and expression and the essence of dance. By capturing freshness and spontaneity when she dances, she aims at passing on that freedom to the student, which I consider to be a treasure.

Cláudia Santos

A very professional and attentive teacher,  sensitive to her student's needs, always maximising their individual characteristics. She always creates a space of trust and comfort in her classes, which are dynamic, creative and joyful.

YOUR QUESTONS ANSWERED

Wondering what to expect? Let’s explore together

Here are some of the most common questions to help you feel at home as you step into the world of creative movement and Romani dance. If you’re curious about how it all works, you’re in the right place.

Is previous dance experience necessary?

No experience needed! Whether you’re new to dance or have years behind you, you’ll find a welcoming space to move, connect, and express yourself freely. All journeys are celebrated and technique is adapted to each new group.

How important is improvisation in these sessions?

Ultimately, improvisation is at the heart of every dance. To Romani people, expressing one's individuality is key in a community environment.  However, the language of forms is also important and resources are given to invite you to practice, while listening to your body and leting creativity guide you.

What if I feel shy or nervous about dancing with others?

That’s completely normal. Many people feel the same way at first. You will be supported in every decision you make and remember, it is your journey and experience, and you will be always encouraged to welcome your own inner rhythm and pace.

What should I bring with me?

Bring a comfortable top and leggins or sport trousers. You are also invited to dust off your old special Gipsy skirt and even your grandmother's shawl! However, there will always be extra accessories availabe for everyone.

Which music and dance styles will I experience?

You’ll journey through a rich tapestry of Romani dances—fiery flamenco, soulful Hungarian moods, vibrant Transylvanian rhythms, and more. Each session brings new sounds and stories to inspire your movement, and there is always an element of surprise,...

How can I tell if this is a good fit for me?

If you’re seeking a joyful, playful yet deep and creative way to connect with yourself and others, you’ll feel right at home. Every path is unique—come see where yours leads.
